Waterways Nostalgia

Calm Day
Oil on Canvas
7" x 12"

Well, this looks pretty strange amid all the elegant muted tones and startling snowy light of January. This has everything to do with Early November and the mad riot of color just before the light plunges into the dark. Winter is a lovely time to clear out the studio , organize all the paint pots and wind up unfinished business. So I'm sharing this little bit of nostalgia from the season past; I have several unfinished pieces to attend to. Brew up a fancy tea. Serve yourself a cup on fine china. Make friends with your unfinished business. Happy Winter.

Thanks very much all. I did several in the same color family but only this one turned out with such clear colors....must clean my brushes better between colors.(Or else buy more brushes.)

I'm always amazed at the number of brushes serious oil painters seem to have - they're either inveterate hoarders or there must be a point to them!

The only thing I really hate about oil painting is cleaning brushes! If I have 1 half inch flat for every value I'm using, that's less brush cleaning when I'm in the heat of painting. Now multiply that times the number of brushes (flats rounds, fans...)you get the picture. Makes painting easier but clean up a nightmare.

Such beautiful colours Lindsay! Aome brightness in the monotone season we're in!
I'm one of those who has a gazillion of oil brushes. Only two watercolourbrushes though. I always have about 5 brushes in my left hand and am painting with a 6th...one works only with white and very light and then one for balck and darks and then one for pushing the paint around all over and then maby one for some light feathering here and there...And I do very little cleaning while painting, but a lot of wiping on a cloth. Afterwards I have to do LOADS of cleaning. So, I plead guilty for having maybe too many brushes!

This is such a peaceful piece. It makes me calm just looking at it.

Thanks Jeanette and Ronell. R, I can hardly believe that you have so few watercolor brushes! I have 8 but now that you mention it, I love my 1/2 " flat and a #8 round the best.

We need some science minded person to invent a magic brush washer for paints that's environmentally sound and only takes 3 seconds.

I'm not even going to admit to how many brushes are standing in a pot in front of me! A brushaholic I think

I tend to wipe them on rags in use and not do a lot of cleaning.

In any given painting I don't use more than maybe 4 brushes but I like a choice of shapes and sizes, nylon and bristle, knives and colour shapers .....
