online sketching and using photoshop
Julie posting a link to this fabulous time-eating site - sketching with the tools is so fluid and the marks it makes delicious! Click to see it larger and you'll see what I mean. I did this quick sketch from memories of walking through the dunes and down to the sand on the Norfolk coast. (I must get over there with Spring on its way) I used the shading, chrome, ribbon and long fur tools in this.
then combined with colour on my computer .....
I could play for hours! I'd love this as a proper programme, actually on my computer, that would produce large scale drawings.
It's really worth clicking on them to see the lovely marks it makes properly. And play have a go ..........
oh dear .... Julie this is addictive

I'm amazed you got it do all that. My efforts looked rather like one of those spiral programs we had as kids where you used to twist the wheels!
vivien - this tool is very lush. i like the way it builds up the marks, as your sketches show really well some of the algorythms seem a bit limited (i.e. the grid), it would be great if it collected new reference points with each new stroke, but it's very good. i blogged it already on my study site - it sits well with my current exercises on markmaking.
thank you!
have you tried corel painter, I use it to do all my illustration work on but you could use it just for drawing and painting, it is great for the freedom that having "unlimited" paper gives you, you do need a graphics tablet and a light pen tho, maybe that is why you feel as if you are using a spirograph Katherine, drawing with a mouse is just like actually drawing with a mouse!
These are great. I've used that little online tool and it does make very interesting and effective marks. I haven't taken it further in PS, but having seen your colour additions, it may be fun to add a little more.
Its very good for working out ideas before committing anything to paper.
:>D
you have to use the mouse with a flourish, as though you were drawing on a large sheet of paper and draw fast so that you get the linear marks as well as the denser ones - I really really like it.
Wouldn't it make beautiful etchings Gesa? add them to monoprinting techniques .....
Corel painter - is that the rather difficult one to get to grips with Sarah? I had a go on that once and felt I'd need a long learning curve on it and lots of books!
Yes I love the unlimited paper feeling and the ability to change things drastically and produce variations on a theme with the computer. A graphics tablet is on my shopping list of 'wants'
I'd be really grateful if you would email me details of one(s) you think would be good as I look at the variety and I'm unsure of what I need,
I'd love to see what you do with it + PS Jeanette - loving your recent work by the way.
vivien - yes, definitely: etchings. i'm still in the process of joining the print studio but just today figured out how to mount the etching/aquatint from recently for my art school portfolio and am looking forward to combining etchings with monoprints.
the tool is very useful for figuring out how to build up marks.
ha... a tablet (and definitely not apple for that device!) ... doing the 'drawing' per touchpad at the moment :|
"lush" indeed, in your hands Vivien!
You are just SO efficient with photoshop Vivien...your playing around with it usually turns out as complete works!
